Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, evidence-based neuro stepdown nursing care for patients recovering from neurological events and procedures
• Perform and document NIHSS assessments as required and ensure NIHSS competency is maintained
• Utilize EPIC for accurate charting, medication administration, and interdisciplinary communication
• Respond quickly to changes in patient condition and activate appropriate interventions, collaborating with physicians and the care team
• Maintain ACLS protocols and participate in code responses and emergency care when needed
• Educate patients and families about neuro conditions, recovery expectations, and discharge planning
• Contribute to a positive, safety-focused unit culture through timely handoffs, careful documentation, and teamwork

Qualifications

• Active RN license with Nursys verification required
• NIHSS certification/experience — MUST have NIHSS noted in CV packet to be considered
• Neuro stepdown experience required; strong med/surg nurses with NIHSS and some stepdown experience may be considered
• EPIC experience required — please note EPIC on your profile
• Current ACLS certification
• Minimum 2 years experience in the specialty
• Complete candidate profile including resume/work history (no gaps greater than 60 days), skills checklist, references, certification card, and badge-appropriate photo

Education

• Active RN license required (Nursys verification requested)

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro nursing fundamentals and stepdown care best practices
• NIHSS assessment and documentation
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records
• ACLS knowledge and emergency response skills
• Strong clinical judgment, assessment, and critical thinking skills
• Med/Surg experience valued for patient management and prioritization
