Roles & Responsibilities
- Triage every patient entering the ED and determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs
- Perform thorough assessments and develop/update individualized plans of care to meet patient needs
- Implement nursing interventions and evaluate outcomes to ensure safe, evidence-based care
- Document complete nursing histories, interventions, and patient responses using EPIC when available
- Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when patients are waiting
- Manage complications and emergencies per Mount Nittany policies and ENA standards with calm, confident action
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up resources
- Ensure supplies and equipment are ready and functioning for timely emergency care
Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure required
- BLS (Healthcare Provider) — current and maintained every two years
- ACLS (Healthcare Provider) — current and maintained every two years
- PALS (Healthcare Provider) — current and maintained every two years
- Valid NIHSS certification
- Comfortable working to ENA standards and functioning as an effective team liaison
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure
- EPIC Computer Charting experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency Nursing knowledge across the lifespan (neonate through geriatric)
- Triage and rapid patient assessment skills
- Nursing documentation best practices and attention to detail
- Patient and family education techniques and discharge planning
- Ability to recognize changes in patient status and escalate care appropriately
- Teamwork, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal skills
