Roles & Responsibilities

• Triage every patient entering the ED and determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs
• Perform thorough assessments and develop/update individualized plans of care to meet patient needs
• Implement nursing interventions and evaluate outcomes to ensure safe, evidence-based care
• Document complete nursing histories, interventions, and patient responses using EPIC when available
• Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when patients are waiting
• Manage complications and emergencies per Mount Nittany policies and ENA standards with calm, confident action
• Educate patients and families about treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up resources
• Ensure supplies and equipment are ready and functioning for timely emergency care

Qualifications

• Current Pennsylvania RN licensure required
• BLS (Healthcare Provider) — current and maintained every two years
• ACLS (Healthcare Provider) — current and maintained every two years
• PALS (Healthcare Provider) — current and maintained every two years
• Valid NIHSS certification
• Comfortable working to ENA standards and functioning as an effective team liaison
• Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to remain composed under pressure
• EPIC Computer Charting experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency Nursing knowledge across the lifespan (neonate through geriatric)
• Triage and rapid patient assessment skills
• Nursing documentation best practices and attention to detail
• Patient and family education techniques and discharge planning
• Ability to recognize changes in patient status and escalate care appropriately
• Teamwork, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal skills
