Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled physical therapy treatments and assist patients with therapeutic exercises and modalities to improve mobility and function
- Document patient progress, update treatment plans, and communicate changes to the therapy team for cohesive care
- Collaborate with therapists, nurses, and caregivers to build patient-centered plans that help individuals reach their goals
- Assist patients with safe transfers, gait training, and correct use of assistive devices
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety strategies, and ways to maximize independence
Qualifications
- Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) credentials or completion of an accredited PTA program
- Active NM Caregiver Account for agencies, as required by the facility
- State licensure or eligibility to practice as a PTA in New Mexico
- Comfort working in a contract rehab setting and adapting to facility protocols
- Strong communication skills, attention to documentation, and a collaborative mindset
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of therapeutic exercises, modalities, and rehabilitation techniques
- Skilled in safe patient handling, transfers, and assistive device training
- Accurate documentation practices and ability to follow established treatment plans
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Time management to deliver efficient, high-quality treatment sessions
