Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough patient assessments across all ages and develop goal-oriented nursing plans
- Provide rapid, evidence-based emergency response and triage for emergent situations
- Administer medications safely and document administration accurately
- Manage advanced clinical tasks such as IV/arterial lines and assist with airway management/intubation
- Operate and monitor clinical equipment including defibrillators and cardiac monitors
- Educate patients and families with clear discharge instructions and teach-back to ensure understanding
- Document patient care and clinical reasoning in the chart with accuracy and professionalism
- Delegate and supervise CNAs/Techs appropriately to ensure safe, team-based care
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate individualized care plans
- Participate in departmental quality initiatives, in-services, and ongoing competency development
Qualifications
- Valid, current, full and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska (required at time of submission)
- BLS and PALS required upon hire; ACLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire
- TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications as appropriate to specialty (preferred/required within timeframe)
- One year of clinical nursing experience preferred; prior ED experience preferred
- Must obtain/maintain required vaccinations (flu vaccination required)
- Background checks/fingerprinting required — start date scheduled after processing
- Ability to recognize and respond to emergently ill patients and perform life-saving interventions
Education
- Education necessary to obtain a valid, current, full and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment across pediatric, adult and geriatric populations
- Emergency response, triage, and rapid clinical decision-making
- Medication administration and understanding of common pharmaceuticals and side effects
- Airway management and intubation assistance skills
- IV and arterial line management, including ABG collection
- Use of defibrillators, cardiac monitors, and other basic/specialty equipment
- Infection control best practices and safe patient handling
- Strong oral and written communication, documentation and charting skills
- Patient/family education and discharge teaching with empathy and clarity
- Ability to lead and mentor peers while working cooperatively in a team
