Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, compassionate psychiatric care to patients within the correctional setting
- Conduct regular observations and document patient behavior, changes, and interventions accurately
- Collaborate with nursing and mental health teams to support treatment plans and continuity of care
- Assist with medication administration and monitor for effects (per scope of practice for licensure)
- Use de-escalation techniques and safe-practice protocols to maintain a secure environment
- Participate in shift handoffs and communicate critical information clearly to the care team
- Support patient safety, infection control, and facility policies consistently
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) in California — LPT will be given priority
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) candidates considered; valid CA LVN license required if applying as LVN
- Reliable attendance and ability to work the scheduled days: Sun, Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat
- Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and following site-specific protocols
- Willingness to complete required facility onboarding and any mandated training
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an approved psychiatric technician program (for LPT) or accredited vocational nursing program (for LVN)
- Active CA LPT or CA LVN license as applicable
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong observational skills and accurate clinical documentation
- Basic psychiatric nursing knowledge and familiarity with common behavioral interventions
- Ability to safely de-escalate behaviors and follow safety protocols
- Good communication and teamwork skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures for LVN scope (if LVN)
- Professionalism in a secure/correctional environment
