Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias promptly to keep patients safe and stable
- Manage arterial lines, central/PICC and peripheral lines with meticulous care
- Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips within protocol parameters and escalate when needed
- Administer blood products and follow heparin/IV insulin protocols accurately
- Provide non-invasive respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP/HFNC) and tracheostomy management
- Respond as a skilled member of rapid response/code teams for deteriorating patients
- Perform conscious sedation monitoring and post-procedure care with close assessment
- Document patient care precisely in Epic and use Pyxis for safe medication administration
- Float to the sister ICCU unit as needed, collaborating smoothly with interdisciplinary teams
Qualifications
- Current RN license (able to practice in North Carolina) — must be in good standing
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience (PCU/IMC/Stepdown/Telemetry preferred)
- Certifications: ACLS and BLS required; NIH/NIHSS required
- Proven experience with arterial line management and titrating vasoactive drips
- Comfortable with IV start, blood product administration, central/PICC line care
- Ability to pass facility EKG testing prior to start and complete hospital orientation week
- Willingness to work nights, every other weekend, and float to an ICCU as needed
- Required flu vaccination (medical/religious exemptions allowed) and facility onboarding attendance
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition/treatment skills
- Competency with vasoactive drip titration and common cardiac drips (e.g., Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine)
- Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) and tracheostomies
- Proficient in Epic charting and Pyxis medication systems
- Skilled in non-invasive airway management, BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula
- Familiarity with IV insulin and heparin protocols and blood product administration
- Effective participation on rapid response teams and emergency/code situations
- Strong infection control and isolation precautions/PPE practices
