Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality orthopedic nursing care to patients on the J6 Orthopedics unit
• Perform and manage dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and wound VAC maintenance
• Care for NG tubes and Foley catheters, ensuring patient comfort and safety
• Accurately document assessments, interventions and patient progress in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with surgeons, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient-centered care
• Support safe patient mobility using equipment like lifts, CPMs and bedside aids
• Advocate for patients and educate them and their families on post-op care and discharge needs
• Adapt to a fast-paced environment and step in as a team player during staffing stretches

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) with active NC nursing license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (hospital setting preferred)
• Orthopedic nursing experience preferred
• Comfortable using Cerner EMR and common orthopedic equipment
• Team player with strong communication and critical thinking skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic nursing procedures and post-operative care
• Wound VAC maintenance and advanced dressing techniques
• NG tube and Foley catheter management
• Suture and staple removal skills
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR documentation
• Safe patient handling practices and use of lifts/CPMs
• Ability to work within established patient ratios and unit guidelines
