Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide specialized progressive cardiac care for post-op cardiac and vascular patients in a busy 40-bed CVPC unit
• Continuously monitor telemetry and act quickly on arrhythmias or hemodynamic changes
• Manage vasoactive and cardiac drips (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine) safely and effectively
• Perform chest tube and epidural management and care for thoracic and vascular surgical patients
• Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated patient care
• Document thorough, accurate patient records in Cerner and communicate changes in condition to the care team
• Educate patients and families about postoperative care, medications, and recovery goals
• Prioritize patient safety and adhere to unit policies and evidence-based practice

Qualifications

• Current RN license (ability to practice in NC or appropriate compact license)
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience (preferably in stepdown/PCU or telemetry)
• Stepdown experience and telemetry experience are required
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Comfortable managing post-op cardiac and vascular surgery patients and vasoactive drips
• Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
• Preferred: recent (within 1 year) experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery patients or CVICU experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Progressive care / stepdown cardiac nursing
• Management of cardiac gtts and vasoactive drips
• Chest tube and epidural management
• IV pump competence (Baxter, CADD epidural pumps)
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR documentation
• Strong teamwork, adaptability, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
