Shift Type: Rotating shifts including weekends — Day shift 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM (12+ hour day shifts); night shifts scheduled as needed. Minimum 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period. Rotating (day/night) coverage required.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity stepdown nursing care for post-cardiac and vascular surgery patients with vigilance and clinical confidence
• Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms to catch changes early
• Manage cardiac drips and vasoactive infusions (phenylephrine, dobutamine, milrinone, etc.) safely and accurately
• Perform chest tube and epidural management, ensuring patient comfort and safety
• Administer tube feedings and manage IV therapies using Baxter and CADD pumps
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient-centered care plans
• Maintain accurate documentation in Cerner EMR and communicate changes to the team and providers promptly
• Support unit workflow, mentor colleagues when appropriate, and contribute to a positive team culture

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state or compact RN with ability to obtain NC authorization as required
• ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
• Minimum 2+ years of clinical experience — stepdown/telemetry experience required
• Experience managing cardiac drips, chest tubes, epidurals, and advanced monitoring preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR and IV/epidural pump systems (Baxter, CADD)
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and flexible to rotate shifts/weekends

Education

• Active RN licensure (associate or bachelor-level acceptable) — BSN preferred if available

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation
• Cardiac/hemodynamic medication titration and drip management
• Chest tube and epidural care
• Tube feeding and complex IV therapy management
• Experience with Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
• Strong teamwork, communication, and time-management skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical stepdown unit
