Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive postoperative nursing care to pediatric patients in the PACU
• Monitor vital signs, level of consciousness, and airway status closely after anesthesia
• Assess and manage pain and nausea using evidence-based interventions and physician orders
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and document accurately
• Communicate clear, compassionate updates to families and coordinate with surgical teams
• Perform thorough handoffs and documentation to inpatient units or discharge planning
• Participate in safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives on the unit

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or multistate compact RN license
• Prior PACU and/or pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical judgment skills in post-anesthesia care
• Ability to pass background check and required health screenings
• Comfort working in a fast-paced perioperative recovery environment with pediatric patients

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
• Airway management and emergence observation
• Pediatric pain assessment and comfort measures
• IV therapy and medication administration competence
• Clear, family-centered communication and patient education
• Accurate electronic medical record documentation and handoff skills
• Team collaboration with anesthesia, surgery, and inpatient care teams
