Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team under RN direction to deliver safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery
• Set up and maintain a sterile field, opening instruments and supplies following established sterile technique
• Perform accurate sponge, needle and instrument counts to ensure patient safety
• Ensure correct site procedures, conduct fire safety checks, and verify all equipment and supplies are ready
• Safely pass instruments and sharps to minimize risk of injury or exposure
• Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary operating rooms before, during and after procedures
• Participate in age-specific patient care and apply training from departmental orientation and annual inservice education

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• Current competencies and certifications maintained as required by facility
• Completion of departmental orientation and annual inservice education (age-specific training)
• Demonstrated competence in sterile technique and surgical instrument handling
• Ability to perform accurate sponge/needle/instrument counts and support correct site procedures
• Comfort working in a fast-paced OR environment and collaborating with surgical teams
