Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery with compassionate, age-appropriate care
• Perform pre-op assessments and document findings accurately
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative team members to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate caregivers on pre-op instructions and post-op expectations in a clear, reassuring way
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and comfort while maintaining a calm environment
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and follow facility protocols and safety standards

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Missouri (or compact RN license if applicable)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or willing to obtain
• Experience in pre-operative and/or pediatrics nursing is highly desirable
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to pass facility orientation and meet required compliance checks

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of pediatric developmental stages and age-appropriate care
• Skilled in pre-op assessment, documentation, and patient/caregiver education
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and sterile environment principles
• Ability to triage and escalate concerns quickly and appropriately
• Compassionate bedside manner and strong attention to detail
