Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: 4-hour shifts (start/end times and specific days to be confirmed) — orientation required

Candidate Pay Rate: $54 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Assess and monitor pediatric patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
Provide age-appropriate pain management and comfort measures for children and families
Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to communicate patient status
Perform timely documentation and handoffs to the next-care team with clear clinical details
Recognize and respond to post-anesthesia complications and escalate per protocol
Educate caregivers on post-operative care and discharge instructions in a compassionate way

Qualifications

Active RN license in Missouri or eligibility to obtain state licensure
Experience or strong interest in PACU nursing, with pediatric experience preferred
BLS required; PALS and ACLS strongly preferred or willing to obtain
Excellent assessment, communication, and teamwork skills in a pediatric setting
Ability to follow perioperative and PACU policies, protocols, and safety practices

Education

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Strong pediatric assessment and post-anesthesia care knowledge
Familiarity with PACU monitoring equipment and documentation systems
Skilled in pain management, airway assessment, and emergency response
Calm under pressure with excellent prioritization and multitasking abilities
Family-centered communication and age-appropriate care techniques
