Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing to SICU patients, including post-open-heart patients (typically 1–2 days postop)
• Manage ventilators and perform/assist with intubations when required
• Oversee hemodynamic monitoring and respond to rapid/ code blue situations as part of the critical care team
• Care for patients on advanced support devices (Impella) and collaborate in CRRT management as needed
• Document patient care accurately and timely in Meditech
• Educate patients and families about care and medications, ensuring respectful, patient-centered interactions
• Maintain appropriate ICU patient ratios and work with unit staff to ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure (able to practice in Tennessee or via compact privileges if applicable)
• Minimum 2 years ICU/cardiac critical care experience
• Current ACLS and BLS required
• CCRN strongly preferred
• Comfort with post-operative open heart care, Impella, CRRT, ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring
• Ability to work rotating nights, weekends and float to other units as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac critical care and post-op open heart patient management
• Ventilator management and airway skills including intubation
• Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation of advanced monitoring platforms
• Experience with Impella device and CRRT is a plus
• Proficiency with Meditech charting and electronic documentation
• Strong situational awareness and rapid-response teamwork during codes and rapids
