Shift Type: Rotating shifts: 2x8 (6:30 AM - 2:30 PM) and 2x12 (6:30 AM - 11:00 PM) with scheduled call; weekend call required (divided into 12-hour blocks). Alternative day option noted: 4x10 (6:30 AM - 6:30 PM). Schedule is variable and filled based on unit needs.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular, thoracic, vascular, and transplant surgeries
• Assist surgeons and the OR team during complex procedures such as CABG, TAVR, TEVAR, LVAD cases and transplant operations
• Maintain strict sterile technique and ensure patient safety with Universal Protocol time outs
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to support continuity of care
• Manage and troubleshoot specialized cardiovascular equipment and devices in the CVOR and hybrid OR
• Respond quickly to emergency situations, code responses, and trauma activations in a Level I trauma environment
• Participate in the unit call rotation and support weekend and evening coverage as required
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate preoperative and postoperative care for adult and geriatric patients

Qualifications

• 1 year CVOR experience required
• 3 years overall OR experience required with a hard stop at 3 years; includes at least 2 years dedicated cardiac and vascular experience
• 1 year experience working in a Level I Trauma facility required
• EPIC charting experience required
• BLS and NIH/NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
• Comfort with call responsibilities including weekday evenings and weekend call in 12-hour blocks
• Experience with cardiovascular, thoracic, vascular, and transplant cases (exposure to CABG, TAVR, LVAD, TEVAR is a strong plus)
• Ability to work in CVOR, Hybrid OR, Trauma and Transplant settings and manage adult and geriatric patient populations
• Facility guideline: flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative and cardiovascular nursing skills including CABG, valve surgery, EVAR/TEVAR and transplant procedures
• Proficiency with EPIC charting and perioperative documentation
• Familiarity with advanced devices and support technologies such as IABP and LVAD
• Skill in robotic and VATS procedures and assisting with advanced minimally invasive techniques
• Strong infection control, specimen handling, and Universal Protocol (time out) practice
• Competence in emergency management including code response and malignant hyperthermia protocols
• Comfort with electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, and specialized CVOR instrumentation
• Collaborative communication and the ability to mentor and support OR teammates
