Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on a busy mixed-acuity surgical oncology PCU
• Administer and monitor chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin and heparin drips safely and accurately
• Assess and manage patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, and other post-surgical needs
• Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to respond quickly to cardiac events
• Follow rigorous infection prevention protocols and lead fall-prevention efforts to keep patients safe
• Document care thoroughly and efficiently using EPIC to maintain continuity and quality of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IV team, PT, respiratory, pharmacy, rapid response) to optimize patient outcomes
• Serve as a dependable team player who can float to other acute oncology units when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice (or compact RN as applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (must meet experience within the last 3 years; at least 1 year of current specialty experience required for clinical pass)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• ONS Chemo certification preferred
• Experience with PCU/stepdown or med-surg/telemetry nursing; surgical oncology experience preferred
• Comfort and competence with chest tube care, telemetry monitoring, and managing drips (insulin, heparin)
• Ability to complete a 72-hour orientation (first week classroom/day shift, second week on-unit with preceptor)

Education

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; current RN licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with EPIC electronic charting
• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Chemotherapy administration principles and safety
• Blood transfusion protocols and monitoring
• IV antibiotic administration and infusion pump (Alaris) use
• Chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac) and post-op drain management
• BiPAP/CPAP management and tracheostomy care
• Familiarity with GE B450 monitors, bladder scanners, and Stryker beds
• Strong infection prevention practices and patient falls prevention strategies
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced surgical oncology environment
