Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage and titrate vasoactive drips safely for PCU/stepdown patients, following unit protocols
• Monitor telemetry and recognize/treat dysrhythmias promptly, activating Rapid Response/Code teams as needed
• Provide advanced line care: arterial lines, central lines and PICCs with accurate documentation in Epic
• Administer blood products and manage heparin/IV insulin protocols with attention to safety
• Perform IV starts and other vascular access tasks while collaborating with IV teams and pharmacy
• Care for patients with chest tubes and tracheostomies, and manage non-invasive respiratory support (HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP)
• Float to sister ICCU when required and adapt to a fast-paced stepdown/PCU environment
• Complete required competency checks including EKG testing prior to start and participate in orientation

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant PCU/stepdown or critical care nursing experience
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Experience with arterial lines, titrating vasoactive drips, and telemetry monitoring
• Proven IV start skills and familiarity with conscious sedation processes
• Prior experience with blood product administration and central/PICC/peripheral line management
• Comfort treating respiratory compromise with HFNC and CPAP/BiPAP (no ventilators on unit)
• Ability to pass EKG testing prior to start and attend hospital orientation week one
• Open to first-time travel nurses; local clinicians accepted

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Arterial line management and central/PICC/peripheral line care
• Titration and management of vasoactive/cardiac drips (Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neo, Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene)
• Blood product administration and heparin/IV insulin protocols
• IV start and phlebotomy skills
• Chest tube (Emerson/Pleur-evac) and tracheostomy care
• Non-invasive airway management, high flow nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP
• Epic charting and Pyxis medication system familiarity; isolation precautions/PPE
