Registered Nurse - ED Holding

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night, 3x12-hour nights per week (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM), schedule set by manager, every other weekend required (Night)
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $53 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-acuity nursing care to adult patients held in the ED holding area, ensuring safe transitions to inpatient units
- Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias; intervene and escalate per protocol
- Manage IV therapy, PICC lines, peripheral line care and perform phlebotomy as needed
- Administer blood products and follow heparin/insulin protocols safely and accurately
- Perform feeding tube and colostomy care and support patients with complex GI needs
- Respond quickly as part of Rapid Response/Code teams and participate in emergency airway/tracheostomy management
- Document patient care clearly in Epic and manage medication dispensing workflows with Pyxis
- Float to ED and MedSurg/PCU areas as needed, maintaining flexibility and strong teamwork
- Communicate effectively using SBAR and coordinate with interdisciplinary support (Respiratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, Social Services)
Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing (required)
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience (MS/Tele, PCU, ED holding or similar high-acuity settings preferred)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- Comfort and competence with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Ability to pass EKG testing prior to start (required)
- Willingness to work night shifts and every other weekend
- Ability to complete a 12-hour unit orientation and function in a fast-paced, high turnover EDIP area
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
Education
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (required); relevant nursing education that led to RN licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring: on-unit and remote cardiac monitoring
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- IV therapy, PICC line management and peripheral line care
- Phlebotomy and blood product administration
- Feeding tube and colostomy care
- ABG interpretation and non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC)
- Tracheostomy care and oral suctioning
- Familiarity with Epic, Pyxis and SBAR communication
- Experience with Rapid Response/code team processes and emergency response
- Understanding of isolation precautions, heparin and insulin protocols
