Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (Oncology Pod)

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night schedule, 3x12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (Night); floating required
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $53 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity emergency nursing care for oncology patients in a dedicated Oncology Pod — assess, prioritize and act quickly
- Perform focused triage and initial assessments to identify urgent needs and initiate appropriate interventions
- Start and maintain IVs, administer IV therapies and blood products safely and accurately
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to dysrhythmias and emergent cardiac events
- Manage ventilated patients and assist with respiratory therapies including BiPAP/CPAP and ABG interpretation
- Administer emergency medications and manage IV vasopressors when indicated
- Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Respiratory, Pharmacy, Radiology, Social Work) to coordinate complex oncology emergency care
- Support rapid response and STEMI/stroke pathways when required, contributing to excellent patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse licensure (RN) appropriate for practice in the assignment location
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience required
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required (HARD STOP)
- EPIC charting experience is required
- Certifications required or expected: BCLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
- Proven proficiency with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and cardiac monitoring
- Experience with blood product administration, central line care/management, and ventilator care preferred
- Flu vaccine required per facility guideline (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
Education
- Nursing diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — meet requirements for RN licensure in the state of assignment
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong triage and rapid assessment skills in a high-acuity emergency setting
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- 12-lead EKG acquisition and interpretation experience
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and ventilator management
- Experience administering and titrating IV vasopressors
- Competence with isolation precautions and PPE
- Comfort working in Level I/II trauma, STEMI and stroke-certified environments
- Pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric care experience within the ED
