Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate patient care by assisting with activities of daily living including bathing, feeding, and toileting
• Obtain and record vital signs and other measurements (temperature, pulse, respirations, orthostatic BPs) accurately and promptly
• Perform routine catheter care, urine and stool collection, and measure/record drain outputs
• Support safe patient transfers and use equipment such as Hoyer lifts, transfer belts, and wheelchairs
• Assist with turning and positioning, pressure injury prevention, and skin care to promote healing and comfort
• Use glucometers and perform point-of-care glucose testing following protocols
• Recognize and report changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff and chart appropriately in Epic (preferred)
• Maintain infection control practices including proper PPE use and cleaning of equipment

Qualifications

• Oregon CNA license in hand (required)
• Minimum 6 months (0.5 year) direct patient care experience; Medical-Surgical or acute care experience preferred
• BLS certification preferred
• Familiarity with Epic charting preferred
• Comfort working night shifts and floating between units to meet department needs
• Ability to safely perform lifts/transfers and follow proper body mechanics
• Orientation: 40 hours (pre-approved time off limited during orientation period)

Knowledge & Skills

• Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting
• Infection control: donning/removing PPE and cleaning equipment
• Glucose point-of-care testing and basic specimen collection
• Routine catheter care (indwelling and external) and urine/stool collection
• Turning, positioning, and pressure injury prevention techniques
• Safe patient transfers, use of Hoyer lifts, lift-assist devices and transfer belts
• Measuring/recording drain output, intake and output documentation
• Obtaining and interpreting vital signs and recognizing abnormal parameters
• Use of bedside equipment: pulse oximetry, hospital beds, specialty beds, sequential compression devices
