Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, family-centered postpartum and newborn care for mother–infant dyads
• Perform and maintain IV therapy, including IV starts and ongoing IV management
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and pass required EKG competency prior to start
• Document accurately in EPIC and maintain clear handoffs for continuity of care
• Educate and coach new parents on newborn care, breastfeeding, discharge teaching, and post‑partum recovery
• Administer medications and blood products safely following unit protocols
• Recognize and respond to emergent situations (e.g., postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia) with appropriate escalation
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IV team, pharmacy, rapid response, PT, social work) to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to similar-acuity units as needed to meet patient care demands while maintaining standards

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of postpartum nursing experience
• BLS certification required
• IV certification and demonstrated IV start skills
• Labor & Delivery (L&D) and couplet care experience
• EPIC charting experience
• Telemetry interpretation skills and willingness to pass EKG competency prior to start
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)
• NRP and previous travel nursing experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Postpartum care and procedures (bladder assessment, episiotomy/incision care, fundus/lochia care)
• Newborn care skills (thermoregulation, metabolic screen, phototherapy, NAS management)
• IV therapy and administration of blood & blood products
• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Medication administration including magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, insulin drips, heparin
• Family-centered discharge teaching and parent education
• Couplet care and care of both mother and newborn
• Charting and documentation proficiency in EPIC
