Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality intermediate and stepdown cardiac care for CVU patients, including post-surgical and downgraded CVICU patients
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips and cardiac rhythms, making timely, informed clinical decisions
• Titrate and manage cardiac and vasoactive drips safely and according to protocol
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists and cardiology consults to coordinate patient care
• Perform thorough EPIC charting to maintain accurate, timely patient records
• Support unit-specific programs such as thoracic, EP, cath lab and structural heart services
• Mentor and work with patient care techs and monitor techs to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for submission in the state of Nebraska
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required
• Minimum 1 year of experience caring for intermediate/stepdown cardiac patients (2 years preferred per posting record)
• Comfort and competency with telemetry monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Experience titrating drips (amiodarone, nitro, nicardipine, epinephrine, diltiazem/cardizem, and other BP management meds)
• Driver's license required at submittal to verify radius rule eligibility
• Ability to pass unit orientation skills assessment (90% pass required on open-book exam during orientation)

Education

• BSN not required (posting indicates BSN not required)
• Associate degree or nursing diploma acceptable; active RN license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry interpretation and remote tele monitoring systems
• Drip titration and vasoactive medication management
• EPIC charting proficiency
• Familiarity with cardiac diagnoses including CHF, A-fib RVR, CVA and post-op thoracic/cardiac care
• Basic respiratory troubleshooting (BiPAP/CPAP/Nasal Cannula)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced acute care/stepdown environment and float to similar units
