Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality orthopedic nursing care to adult patients
• Perform thorough patient assessments and document care using Cerner
• Manage wound care including dressing changes and Wound VAC maintenance
• Remove sutures/staples and perform routine post-op nursing procedures
• Insert and manage Foley catheters and NG tubes safely and per policy
• Assist patients with mobility using lifts and mobility devices, promoting safe ambulation
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient-centered discharge planning
• Educate patients and families on post-op care and recovery to support great outcomes

Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina (NC License) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (hospital experience preferred)
• Orthopedic nursing experience preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR for documentation
• Comfortable with patient lifts, mobility devices, wound care, and post-op ortho care
• Team-player attitude, adaptable to a fast-paced environment, and patient-centered

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic nursing principles and post-operative care
• Wound care, dressing changes, and Wound VAC maintenance
• Foley catheter and NG tube care and troubleshooting
• Suture and staple removal procedures
• Patient assessment and safe mobility techniques (lifts, Sara Stedy, hover mats, etc.)
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical record
• Ability to manage typical ortho unit patient ratios and priorities
