Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality primary care services to adult patients at VSP - Valley State Prison
• Perform thorough history and physical exams, diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including medication management
• Coordinate care and referrals to specialists as needed and follow up on specialist recommendations
• Document patient encounters accurately and maintain complete medical records in the EMR
• Collaborate with nursing and correctional health staff to ensure continuity of care
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to facility policies and protocols

Qualifications

• MD or DO (required) with completion of an accredited residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
• Active state medical license or eligibility to obtain licensure in California
• DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA privileges
• Experience in primary care; prior correctional healthcare experience is a strong plus
• Current BLS (and ACLS if preferred) certifications or willingness to obtain
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent documentation skills, and ability to work with a multidisciplinary team

Education

• MD or DO; completed residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid primary care diagnostic and treatment skills for adult populations
• Comfort working in a correctional healthcare environment and following facility protocols
• Ability to manage chronic disease and acute conditions efficiently
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients and staff
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
• Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize caseloads
