Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia care unit and monitor recovery progress
• Continuously monitor vital signs, airway status, and pain levels, intervening promptly as needed
• Administer medications and perform necessary treatments as ordered, with safe medication practices
• Provide clear, compassionate communication and education to families during the recovery process
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care
• Document patient status and interventions accurately in the medical record
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing professional development to maintain high-quality pediatric care

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in Missouri or eligibility to obtain licensure
• Experience in PACU or pediatric nursing preferred
• BLS required; PALS recommended or willingness to obtain
• Comfort working with pediatric patients and communicating with families in stressful moments
• Ability to pass standard background and health screenings

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia assessment and recovery monitoring
• Airway and pain management for children
• IV therapy and medication administration with pediatric dosing considerations
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and ability to act quickly
• Clear, empathetic communication with families and team members
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
