Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort prior to procedures
• Perform thorough pre-op assessments and document findings clearly and accurately
• Prepare patients and families by explaining pre-op processes and answering questions in a reassuring way
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to coordinate timely care
• Administer and monitor pre-op medications and observe vital signs, escalating concerns promptly
• Ensure adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies
• Participate actively in orientation and training to maintain best practices and high-quality care

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (Missouri) — required
• Experience or focused interest in pediatric pre-operative nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS strongly preferred
• Comfortable with pediatric assessments, IV starts, and medication administration in a pre-op setting
• Excellent communication skills for working with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to pass facility onboarding and orientation processes

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric anatomy, growth and development, and age-appropriate communication
• Familiarity with perioperative/pre-op assessment protocols and safety checklists
• Skilled in patient/family education and preparing kids for procedures with empathy
• Strong documentation practices and familiarity with electronic health records
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and escalate clinical concerns when needed
