Roles & Responsibilities

Assess pediatric patients pre-operatively and quickly identify any clinical concerns
Prepare children and their families for surgery with calm, age-appropriate education and reassurance
Administer pre-op medications and perform necessary interventions safely and accurately
Collaborate with the surgical team and anesthesia to ensure seamless patient flow
Document assessments, interventions and communications in the chart clearly and promptly
Support a family-centered approach — comfort caregivers and answer questions with empathy

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Missouri licensure or eligibility to obtain)
Experience in pre-operative nursing and/or pediatric nursing preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
Strong pediatric assessment skills and comfort working with children and families
Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced surgical setting

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Pre-operative assessment and preparation for pediatric patients
Medication administration and safe documentation practices
Family-centered care and patient education tailored to children
Familiarity with surgical workflows and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
Attention to detail, infection control, and patient safety practices
