Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, monitoring recovery and comfort
• Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress with attention to detail
• Administer medications and interventions per orders and unit protocol, prioritizing safety
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions in a caring, clear way
• Recognize and respond quickly to changes in condition, escalating concerns appropriately
• Participate in unit quality improvement and safety initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in Missouri (or compact RN eligible) required
• Pediatric experience preferred — PACU/Pediatric PACU background a strong plus
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable with post-anesthesia monitoring, airway assessment, and pediatric pain management
• Excellent communication skills for working with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to pass facility orientation and competency assessments

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia care principles and PACU workflows
• Familiarity with pediatric assessment and age-appropriate techniques
• Skilled in IV management, medication administration, and documentation
• Ability to triage and prioritize in a fast-paced recovery setting
• Competency with electronic health records (EHR) and accurate charting
• Team-oriented mindset with focus on patient safety and family-centered care
