Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens accurately and with care, following collection protocols
• Use the Laboratory Information System to receive patients, enter orders, result tests, and generate required reports
• Perform and document tests in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology using automated and manual methods
• Analyze and verify test results for validity and accuracy before releasing them to patient charts
• Ensure designated turnaround times are met and critical results are reported and documented promptly
• Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and interpret QC data to maintain lab accuracy
• Perform preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments
• Participate in method and instrument evaluation and assist with implementation of new methods
• Teach and train new partners and students to maintain a high-performing laboratory team

Qualifications

• Current MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or an acceptable specialty certification (BB, C, H, or M)
• Qualified to perform CLIA high complexity testing per CLIA 493.1489 testing personnel qualifications
• Hands-on experience in hematology and blood bank (required)
• Familiarity with automated and manual testing methods across core lab disciplines
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems for ordering, resulting, and documentation
• Strong competency in quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance
• Clear communication skills for interacting with nurses, physicians, and lab colleagues
• Willingness to participate in training and maintain competency for current and new methods

Education

• MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or relevant specialty certification (BB, C, H, M) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical laboratory testing best practices
• Specimen collection and handling
• Quality control and proficiency testing procedures
• Regulatory compliance knowledge, including CLIA high complexity standards
• Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) usage
• Instrumentation maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting
• Result analysis and test interpretation across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, and microbiology
• Ability to teach, document procedures, and communicate effectively with clinical staff
