Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate post-anesthesia patient care, monitoring recovery closely
- Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, and neurologic status after procedures
- Administer medications and interventions per orders and hospital policy
- Collaborate with the Clinical Leader and interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe handoffs
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and surgical teams about recovery progress
- Follow State of Maine Board of Nursing and St. Joseph Hospital policies and procedures
- Support unit flow by prioritizing tasks, triaging care needs, and assisting teammates
Qualifications
- Current Maine RN license or compact license
- ASN required; BSN preferred
- BLS current or obtained within 30 days of hire
- ACLS current or obtained within 90 days of hire
- PALS current or obtained within 1 year of hire
- 1 3 years of nursing experience preferred
- Strong communication skills, ability to multi-task, and a team-player attitude
Education
- ASN required
- BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Post-anesthesia care (PACU) best practices and patient monitoring
- Skilled at assessing airway, respiratory status, and hemodynamic stability
- Proficient with medication administration and post-op pain management
- Comfortable documenting care accurately and communicating handoffs
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and prioritize in a fast-paced unit
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and the care team
