Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia patient care, monitoring recovery closely
• Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, and neurologic status after procedures
• Administer medications and interventions per orders and hospital policy
• Collaborate with the Clinical Leader and interdisciplinary team to coordinate safe handoffs
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, and surgical teams about recovery progress
• Follow State of Maine Board of Nursing and St. Joseph Hospital policies and procedures
• Support unit flow by prioritizing tasks, triaging care needs, and assisting teammates

Qualifications

• Current Maine RN license or compact license
• ASN required; BSN preferred
• BLS current or obtained within 30 days of hire
• ACLS current or obtained within 90 days of hire
• PALS current or obtained within 1 year of hire
• 1 3 years of nursing experience preferred
• Strong communication skills, ability to multi-task, and a team-player attitude

Education

• ASN required
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care (PACU) best practices and patient monitoring
• Skilled at assessing airway, respiratory status, and hemodynamic stability
• Proficient with medication administration and post-op pain management
• Comfortable documenting care accurately and communicating handoffs
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and prioritize in a fast-paced unit
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and the care team
