Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens accurately and courteously, ensuring correct labeling and chain of custody
• Perform and validate laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, and/or microbiology using automated and manual methods
• Analyze test results for validity and accuracy before release to patient charts
• Perform and interpret quality control and proficiency testing to maintain test integrity
• Report and document critical results promptly to nursing and physician teams
• Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting on laboratory instruments
• Participate in method and instrument evaluations and assist with implementation
• Teach and train new staff and students while maintaining your own competency on current and new methods

Qualifications

• Current MLS or MLT Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification required (BB, C, H or M accepted)
• Qualified to perform CLIA high complexity testing per CLIA 493.1489 standards
• Hands-on experience in hematology and blood bank (required)
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and result validation
• Demonstrated ability with quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with nurses, physicians, and laboratory team members

Education

• MLS/MLT Generalist or Specialty Certification (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank and/or microbiology testing
• Knowledge of CLIA high complexity testing requirements and quality systems
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for ordering, result entry, and reporting
• Skill in instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
• Ability to interpret quality control data and take corrective actions
• Familiarity with specimen collection best practices and proper documentation
