Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional nursing care to neuro acute patients with epilepsy, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, and traumatic brain injuries
• Monitor telemetry and detect subtle changes in patient status to prevent complications
• Assist with 24-48 hour continuous EEG monitoring for epilepsy diagnosis and treatment
• Perform cranial nerve assessments and other neurological evaluations
• Collaborate with charge nurses and resource RNs to maintain safe patient ratios (1:4 days and nights)
• Float to MS/Tele, Westgate, or Laveen Campus as needed
• Maintain sterile field during central line dressing changes and Foley catheter insertions
• Participate in simulation labs and orientation to ensure top-notch skills

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg/Telemetry experience with neuro acute preferred
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• BSN preferred
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Strong critical thinking and assessment skills, able to detect small changes in patients
• Natural hair color, no facial piercings, and clean shaven for men (for fit test)

Education

• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Med Surg/Tele certification preferred
• Proficient in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes with sterile technique
• Ability to assess cranial nerves and neurological function
• Experience with epilepsy monitoring and continuous EEGs
• Strong understanding of sterile field maintenance
