Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (day & night): 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM; scheduled across the week with every-other-weekend coverage and 2-3 holiday shifts between Thanksgiving and New Year’s; limited block-scheduling available for travelers

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality MedSurg/Telemetry nursing care for neuro and med/surg patients, prioritizing safety and compassion
• Assess patients, monitor telemetry awareness, and respond to changes in condition with clinical judgment
• Titrate drips safely, including heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine, following unit protocols
• Manage and monitor PCA pumps and other common infusion devices
• Document accurately and promptly in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
• Perform hourly rounding and maintain responsiveness to patient needs
• Collaborate with charge nurses, telemetry/monitor techs, and support staff to manage census, discharges, and admissions
• Float to other MedSurg areas as needed and contribute to a positive, team-oriented unit culture

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for practice (state license required)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience preferred (MedSurg/Telemetry experience strongly preferred)
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required prior to shift start
• Comfort and experience with 12-hour shift rotations
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal to confirm radius eligibility
• Ability to pass an orientation open-book skills exam with a 90% score (required)
• Must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI and Dignity) and must meet the 50-mile radius rule
• No license or background hits required

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) — BSN not required
• Current RN license in the practicing state

Knowledge & Skills

• MedSurg Telemetry nursing fundamentals and neuro patient care knowledge
• Telemetry strip awareness and ability to act on monitoring trends
• Proficiency with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
• IV drip titration experience (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and familiarity with infusion safety
• Experience working with PCA pumps and common titratable/set-rate drips
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills to handle multiple discharges/admissions
• Comfort using mechanical lifts and following safe patient handling practices (preferred)
• Excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity when caring for diverse populations
