Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery by performing thorough pre-op assessments
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with children and their families to reduce anxiety
• Coordinate with surgical and anesthesiology teams to ensure safe, timely handoffs
• Document pre-op findings, allergies, and consent verification accurately in the chart
• Monitor patients for stability during pre-op period and escalate concerns promptly
• Educate families on pre-op instructions and post-op expectations to support recovery

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Missouri preferred or ability to obtain MO licensure
• Experience in pediatrics and pre-op nursing or related perioperative environment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; pediatric certifications a plus
• Comfort working with children and families across a range of ages and needs
• Strong communication, assessment, and documentation skills
• Willingness to participate in required orientation for the assignment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred or equivalent clinical experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric pre-operative assessment and perioperative best practices
• Skill in performing vital signs, focused assessments, and age-appropriate interventions
• Ability to educate families in a clear, compassionate manner
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation
• Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills across disciplines
