Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver high-quality emergency nursing care from pediatric to geriatric patients
• Perform age-appropriate assessments and triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
• Administer medications, IV fluids, blood and blood products, and manage emergency resuscitation protocols
• Document patient care accurately and professionally in the electronic medical record
• Prioritize and coordinate care for multiple patients to ensure efficient patient flow
• Collaborate with physicians, ancillary departments, and outside agencies to advocate for patients
• Maintain and check emergency equipment and ensure rooms and supplies are ready for the next patient
• Provide education to patients, families, and pre-hospital emergency providers

Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse license (required)
• Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (within 1 year of hire)
• Demonstrated competency in triage (ESI), IV insertion, medication administration, and emergency resuscitation
• Strong communication, prioritization, and collaboration skills
• Attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced ER environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency nursing principles and age-appropriate assessment
• Triage and rapid patient prioritization using ESI
• IV therapy, blood transfusion safety, and parenteral fluid administration
• Electronic medical record documentation and medical terminology
• Crisis management, delegation, and team coordination
• Patient and family education, discharge planning, and transfer protocols
