Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate patient hygiene and ADL assistance including baths, grooming, dressing and oral care
- Measure and accurately record vital signs, intake and output, height and weight; report abnormalities promptly
- Collect stool, urine and sputum specimens and assist with basic treatment procedures under RN supervision
- Safely position, lift and transfer patients using appropriate equipment and assist with range of motion exercises
- Prepare and pass meals, assist patients with feeding, and verify diet charts for accurate meal delivery
- Document patient care and observations on hospital-approved flow sheets and maintain strict confidentiality
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked and safe environment; follow infection control and safety policies
- Participate in recreational and therapeutic activities planned by licensed staff to support patient wellbeing
Qualifications
- Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (Hawaii certification preferred or eligible)
- Experience in long-term care, SNF/ICF, medical or surgical units is strongly preferred
- Skilled in patient transfer and lifting techniques, including use of shower gurney
- Able to collect specimens and accurately document care and observations
- Comfortable administering oxygen under direction and performing routine treatments as directed
- Willingness to work rotating and evening shifts and to adapt to unit needs
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient care and assistance with ADLs
- Vital signs monitoring and intake/output measurement
- Patient transfer, lifting and use of mobility equipment
- Specimen collection and basic clinical procedures
- Accurate documentation and use of flow sheets
- Infection control and safety procedures
- Experience with shower gurney and sterilization/autoclave processes
- Ability to interact positively with patients and families and follow care plans
