Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on patient care and assist clinicians during exams and procedures
• Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and relevant clinical information accurately
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist with basic clinical procedures under supervision
• Collect specimens (as trained) and ensure proper labeling and handling
• Maintain accurate patient records in the facility’s documentation system
• Support infection prevention practices and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment
• Help coordinate patient flow, appointments, and referrals to keep the clinic running smoothly
• Step in as reliable coverage during FMLA/LOA to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited MA program preferred
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred
• Clinical experience in an outpatient or correctional setting is a plus
• Ability to pass required facility background checks and clearances
• Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented attitude
• Proof of required immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Comfortable taking vitals, obtaining patient histories, and preparing patients for exams
• Basic phlebotomy and specimen-handling knowledge (preferred)
• Familiarity with documenting in electronic health records (EHR) systems
• Good infection control practices and attention to detail
• Ability to work professionally within a correctional healthcare environment
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy clinic
