Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on patient care and assist clinicians during exams and procedures
- Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and relevant clinical information accurately
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist with basic clinical procedures under supervision
- Collect specimens (as trained) and ensure proper labeling and handling
- Maintain accurate patient records in the facility’s documentation system
- Support infection prevention practices and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment
- Help coordinate patient flow, appointments, and referrals to keep the clinic running smoothly
- Step in as reliable coverage during FMLA/LOA to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited MA program preferred
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred
- Clinical experience in an outpatient or correctional setting is a plus
- Ability to pass required facility background checks and clearances
- Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented attitude
- Proof of required immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable taking vitals, obtaining patient histories, and preparing patients for exams
- Basic phlebotomy and specimen-handling knowledge (preferred)
- Familiarity with documenting in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Good infection control practices and attention to detail
- Ability to work professionally within a correctional healthcare environment
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy clinic
