Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery nursing care for birthing people
- Continuously monitor fetal heart tracings and interpret FHM findings to guide care
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and immediate stabilization using NRP and STABLE principles
- Assess and manage labor progress, pain, maternal vital signs, and potential complications
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams for safe deliveries
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient education clearly and timely in the charting system
- Educate families about labor, birth, postpartum care, and newborn stabilization with empathy
- Respond rapidly to obstetric emergencies and participate in unit drills and quality initiatives
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; must be an active Registered Nurse or able to obtain Colorado RN license prior to start
- Minimum of 1 year of perinatal or labor & delivery nursing experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; may be obtained upon hire if needed
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced Provider required
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) - Intermediate required
- STABLE program learner required
- EPIC experience preferred
- BSN or MSN in Nursing preferred
- Bilingual Spanish preferred
- Must be medically able to safely function at approximately 8,000 feet elevation
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
- Bachelor's (BSN) or Master's (MSN) in Nursing preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Perinatal nursing best practices and labor & delivery procedures
- Fetal heart monitoring interpretation and electronic fetal monitoring systems
- Neonatal resuscitation and newborn stabilization techniques
- Strong clinical assessment, triage, and emergency response skills
- Clear, compassionate patient and family education and communication
- Collaborative teamwork with obstetrics, anesthesia, neonatology, and ancillary services
- Charting and documentation proficiency (experience with EPIC is a plus)
- Adaptability to high-altitude working conditions and a remote hospital environment
