Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients during night hours, keeping safety front and center
- Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment with careful assessment and adjustment
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation to guide therapy decisions
- Respond quickly and confidently to rapid responses and code situations
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and the night team to coordinate patient care plans
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses clearly and promptly in the chart
- Educate patients and families about respiratory care plans and discharge needs
Qualifications
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or equivalent credential (state license required where applicable)
- Active state Respiratory Care license or ability to obtain licensure for the assignment state
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Previous acute care or hospital respiratory experience preferred
- Ability to pass facility background checks and credentialing in a timely manner
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or graduation from an accredited respiratory care program
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven skills with mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning strategies
- Strong ABG interpretation and blood gas sampling technique
- Airway management, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized medication delivery
- Familiarity with EMR documentation and electronic charting best practices
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently overnight
- Clinical problem-solving under pressure during night shift scenarios
