Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight for the Occupational Therapy Department and ensure quality care
- Directly evaluate and treat patients (approximately 80% clinical time) to maintain hands-on expertise
- Supervise and mentor certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Technicians
- Lead clinical education and competency development programs for OT staff
- Maintain and update OT policy and procedure manuals, ensuring compliance with regulations
- Oversee documentation standards, evaluation/treatment protocols, and discharge planning
- Support program development and administrative initiatives (approximately 20% of role)
- Ensure department practices align with the State Practice Act and professional standards
Qualifications
- Graduate of a school of Occupational Therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
- Current license to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of California (Board of Medical Quality Assurance)
- Demonstrated ability to supervise COTAs and rehabilitation staff and lead clinical education
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, documentation standards, and scope-of-care policies
- Membership in AOTA is preferred
Education
- Graduate of an AOTA‑approved school of Occupational Therapy
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in patient evaluation, treatment planning, and hands-on occupational therapy interventions
- Experience with policy and procedure development and implementation
- Competency in clinical documentation and discharge planning best practices
- Proven ability to lead clinical education, competency assessment, and staff development
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality assurance in rehabilitation services
- Strong communication, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
