Shift Type: Variable 4x10 day schedule in 6-week blocks, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM (Day). Note: schedule is issued in 6-week intervals and may include weekends; role also carries rotating on-call responsibilities (three weeknight call shifts 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM and three weekend call shifts 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM every 6 weeks) — Day/Night rotating call coverage expected.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality perioperative nursing care for thoracic and vascular surgical patients, maintaining safety and sterile technique at all times
- Independently manage call responsibilities for thoracic and vascular cases, responding to calls within a 30-minute window
- Float to other OR suites at the First Hill campus as needed and adapt quickly to different team dynamics
- Perform thorough pre-op and post-op assessments and provide clear, compassionate patient education
- Document care accurately and promptly using Epic to ensure seamless continuity of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary support teams (anesthesia, IV teams, PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, etc.) to optimize patient outcomes
- Support unit staffing needs and participate in voluntary schedule flexibility while advocating for safe patient ratios
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure (Washington); active compact license is honored at Swedish facilities
- Minimum 2 years of perioperative nursing experience — candidates with less than 2 years will be screened out
- Demonstrated thoracic and vascular OR experience required to take call independently
- BLS required; ACLS and CNOR are strongly preferred
- Comfort and experience floating to different ORs and handling a high-volume surgical environment (21 rooms, 50–60 daily census)
- Ability to work 10-hour day shifts and meet rotating call obligations with a 30-minute response time
- Must not be a former permanent Swedish staff member (previous Swedish perm staff are not permitted to work here as travelers)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient charting in Epic and strong documentation practices
- Expertise in perioperative nursing principles, sterile technique, and patient safety
- Experience with thoracic and vascular procedures (e.g., lobectomy, thoracotomy, VATS, AAA repair, carotid procedures)
- Comfort in high-acuity, teaching-hospital environments and trauma experience preferred (Trauma Level I/II)
- Ability to prioritize, communicate clearly, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with a wide variety of OR case types listed for the unit and adaptability to changing case mixes
