Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert telemetry monitoring and post-op cardiac care for Progressive Care Unit patients, keeping safety front and center
• Administer and titrate cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, Cardizem) with precision and clinical judgment
• Perform bedside procedures such as paracentesis, thoracentesis and PICC insertion when indicated
• Document care thoroughly and efficiently in Meditech EMR to ensure continuity and clarity
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team—physicians, therapists and techs—to deliver coordinated, high-quality care
• Maintain expected patient ratios (approximately 1:3) and proactively manage patient flow and acuity
• Mentor and communicate clearly with peers and support staff; be accountable and dependable during each shift
• Support transitions of care and provide patient/family education to improve outcomes and satisfaction

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Texas (or compact RN eligible and willing to obtain TX privileges)
• BLS and ACLS required
• Minimum 1 year of clinical RN experience; PCU/telemetry and post-op cardiac experience strongly preferred
• Comfort and proficiency with telemetry monitoring and cardiac drip management
• Experience with Baxter IV pumps, Hillrom equipment and iMobile devices
• Experience documenting in Meditech EMR
• Hands-on experience with bedside procedures (paracentesis, thoracentesis, PICC) is a big plus
• Ability and willingness to float to Med-Surg/telemetry and Ortho as needed
• Excellent communication skills, teamwork mindset, and a strong sense of accountability

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Post-op cardiac care including CABG, valve repairs/replacements, LVAD and VATS chest tube management
• Familiarity with LVAD care, TAVR, pacemaker/AICD and EP-related patient needs
• Management of cardiac drips and titration protocols
• Proficiency with Baxter IV pumps and other unit equipment
• Efficient documentation and workflow in Meditech EMR
• Patient education, discharge planning and family communication skills
• Ability to manage a 1:3 patient ratio and prioritize in a fast-paced unit
