Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care for geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding)
- Monitor and record vital signs and resident conditions accurately and promptly
- Support mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Assist with mealtime prep and ensure residents receive appropriate nutrition and meal assistance
- Communicate changes in resident status to nursing staff and document care in facility records
- Participate in care planning and collaborate with interdisciplinary team to improve resident outcomes
- Promote a respectful, dignified environment that supports residents' independence and quality of life
Qualifications
- GNA certification (state-approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant credential) — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Previous experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings is a plus
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; compassionate bedside manner
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist with physical tasks typical of nursing assistant roles
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of a Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program / state-approved GNA course
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of ADLs (activities of daily living) and safe transfer techniques
- Basic infection control practices and hand hygiene
- Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
- Comfortable with documentation and following care plans
- Strong observational skills to identify changes in resident condition
- Teamwork and effective communication with residents, families, and clinical staff
