Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate, plan and deliver skilled speech-language pathology services for residents in a skilled nursing facility
- Provide individualized treatment plans addressing communication, cognition and swallowing disorders
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy and medical staff to integrate SLP goals into resident care
- Document progress clearly and timely in accordance with facility and regulatory standards
- Educate residents, families and staff on strategies to support communication and safe swallowing
- Participate in team meetings, discharge planning and transitions of care to ensure continuity
Qualifications
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) — reflected in the job title
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent graduate training
- State licensure in Illinois or ability to obtain licensure (facility will verify requirements)
- Comfort working in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) environment
- Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with therapy reporting requirements
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills — residents and colleagues appreciate a collaborative clinician
- New graduates encouraged to apply — experience level: any
Education
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology preferred; graduate-level training required for CCC-SLP eligibility
- ASHA CCC-SLP credential (as noted in title)
Knowledge & Skills
- Assessment and treatment of dysphagia and swallowing disorders
- Cognitive-communication evaluation and intervention
- Skilled SNF documentation and progress note proficiency
- Knowledge of evidence-based SLP interventions across adult populations
- Ability to train and educate caregivers and interdisciplinary team members
- Time management and caseload prioritization in a post-acute setting
