Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled, compassionate nursing care for Med-Surg and Telemetry patients using best practices
• Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to recognize and respond to changes quickly
• Start and maintain IVs, administer medications safely, and manage blood products per policy
• Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
• Deliver patient education — explain procedures, medications, and discharge plans with clarity
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, Pharmacy, Social Work) to optimize outcomes
• Respond to emergencies and participate in management of cardiac arrest when needed
• Perform wound care, stool/feeding tube management, tracheostomy care, and other specialized skills as required
• Assist with safe mobilization and use of assistive devices and ceiling lifts to prevent injury

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years Med-Surg/Telemetry nursing experience (explicit requirement)
• BLS required
• EPIC experience required
• ACLS preferred
• CPI preferred
• Demonstrated IV starts and venous blood draw skills
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
• Able to float to other units within the OSU organization as needed
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Management of cardiac arrest and emergency response
• IV therapy, blood product administration, and port care
• Feeding tube (NG/PEG) and tracheostomy care
• Wound care, diabetic teaching, and stroke scale assessment
• Pulse oximetry, incentive spirometry, and supplemental oxygen delivery
• Infection prevention, fall risk assessment, and safe patient mobilization
• Proficiency with EPIC charting and accurate medication administration
