Location: Tacoma, WA
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Two weeks per month: continuous 24-hour coverage blocks (coverage blocks run 7:00 AM - 7:00 AM during assigned coverage weeks) providing 24/7 ER/trauma coverage with nightly and holiday 24-hour on-call responsibilities; Outpatient clinic: three mornings per week (Monday-Friday mornings, exact days to be confirmed). Rotating day/night/24-hour coverage.
Candidate Pay Rate: $473 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide full-spectrum orthopedic surgical care, managing trauma and general orthopedic cases (excluding complex pelvic reconstruction).
- Deliver 24/7 emergency department and Level II trauma coverage during assigned blocks, ensuring timely evaluation and operative management.
- Carry on-call responsibilities including nightly, holiday, and 24-hour shifts; hold pager and promptly triage consults.
- Run an outpatient clinic three mornings per week to manage follow-ups, pre-op evaluations, and continuity of care.
- Collaborate closely with PA/MA support, hospital staff, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and admissions.
- Participate in patient admissions, operative scheduling, and post-operative management to maintain high-quality outcomes.
- Maintain clear documentation in EPIC and adhere to hospital policies and credentialing requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Level II trauma experience (deal breaker: must meet this requirement).
- Orthopedic surgery training and active surgical experience in trauma and general ortho cases.
- Trauma fellowship preferred but not required if trauma experience supports credentialing.
- Experience providing 24/7 ER/trauma coverage and managing on-call/pager responsibilities.
- Familiarity with EPIC EMR workflows and documentation.
- Ability to complete credentialing within the system (credentialing timeframe noted at ~60–90 days).
- Medical license in good standing (ability to obtain Washington state licensure/privileges as required).
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in full-spectrum orthopedic surgical procedures (complex pelvic cases excluded).
- Comfortable managing Level II trauma patients and coordinating with trauma teams.
- Strong emergency department/take service skills and rapid decision-making under pressure.
- Proven experience working with PA/MA support in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Proficiency with EPIC for charting, orders, and communications.
- Call management skills, including nightly and 24-hour on-call workflows.
