Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity PCU and oncology-focused bedside nursing for adult patients with complex needs
- Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to rapidly identify changes in cardiac status
- Manage IV therapy and vascular access including peripheral IVs, PICCs, ports, and central lines
- Administer and monitor blood products and support safe transfusion practices
- Participate in Rapid Response and Code teams and lead emergency interventions when called
- Float to MedSurg and specialty oncology units (BMT, acute leukemia, hematology, surgical oncology, etc.) to meet patient care needs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (pharmacy, respiratory, PT, social services) to coordinate patient-centered care
- Document clinical care accurately in Epic and support continuity of care through clear communication
- Adhere to infection prevention protocols, fall reduction strategies, and unit safety standards
- Support patient and family education around treatments, procedures, and post-discharge care
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for practice in Ohio
- Minimum 2+ years of high-acuity PCU-level nursing or higher required
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; NIHSS required
- Oncology experience preferred (OCN or oncology certifications such as ONS/ONCC chemo immunotherapy certificate are a plus)
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Comfortable with IV therapy, central line/PICC care, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Travel nursing experience required/preferred for this contract role
- Familiarity with Epic charting system (charting in Epic required)
- Ability to participate in float assignments across multiple inpatient oncology and MedSurg areas
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- IV therapy and vascular access management (PICC, ports, central lines)
- Dysrhythmia management and emergency response (Rapid Response/Code team experience)
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring (preferred)
- Management of arterial lines, ABG interpretation, and hemodynamic assessments
- Non-invasive airway support (HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP) and tracheostomy care
- Wound care and use of wound vacs, feeding tube and chest tube management
- Familiarity with oncology diagnoses and post-surgical care (BMT, acute leukemia, surgical oncology)
- Strong documentation skills in Epic and effective interdisciplinary communication
- Infection prevention practices and patient safety/fall prevention strategies
