Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency care across multiple ER locations as a float RN, adapting quickly to each site
- Perform triage, assessment, and prioritization for a broad range of acute presentations including stroke and STEMI send-outs
- Interpret telemetry and ECG strips to guide timely patient interventions
- Conduct point-of-care testing and manage results per unit protocols
- Collaborate closely with respiratory therapy, physicians, and mid-level providers for cohesive patient care
- Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
- Support unit flow by assisting in holds, fast track needs, and mixed ER environments
- Maintain required certifications and participate in unit-specific orientation and training
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit required license for Kansas or appropriate compact privileges)
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with emergency department experience strongly preferred
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications
- ENPC or PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications as required by the assignment
- Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and floating among multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius
- Experience with EPIC or other electronic charting systems
- Strong telemetry and ECG interpretation skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required; BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency nursing fundamentals and triage best practices
- Telemetry interpretation and ECG reading
- Point-of-care testing procedures and interpretation
- Ability to manage common ER presentations: abdominal pain, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, hypertensive emergencies
- Collaboration with respiratory therapy and interdisciplinary teams
- Adaptability to varied ER setups and mixed-hold environments
- Good communication with patients, families, and unit staff under fast-paced conditions
