Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, injections and pediatric immunizations safely and with a calm bedside manner
- Conduct point-of-care lab tests and document results accurately
- Take vital signs and assist physicians during exams to ensure excellent clinical care
- Manage exam room readiness: clean, stock and prepare supplies so clinics run smoothly
- Handle patient phone calls and triage according to physician direction — be the helpful voice patients need
- Complete medical record documentation, referral forms and lab slips promptly and accurately
- Requisition and manage supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels
- Assist patients getting to/from exam rooms and support them during procedures with compassion
- Collaborate with the care team and step in to assist with nursing procedures as directed
Qualifications
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (must maintain certification)
- BLS (AHA) certification — required
- Minimum 2 years in a formal Medical Assistant curriculum or equivalent training
- At least 3 years of demonstrated relevant experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical setting
- LPNs are also accepted for this role
- Comfort with pediatric immunizations and adult immunization administration
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to patient confidentiality
Education
- Completed at least 2 years in a formal Medical Assistant curriculum (or equivalent training)
Knowledge & Skills
- Phlebotomy and safe specimen handling
- Taking and interpreting vital signs (BP, pulse, temp, respiration)
- Administering injections and routine immunizations
- Performing basic point-of-care lab tests
- Electronic medical record documentation and referral processing
- Telephone triage and patient instruction following physician guidance
- Supply requisitioning and inventory management
- Ability to work calmly under pressure, maintain discretion and support a team-oriented environment
