Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy, blood draws and lab testing accurately and compassionately
- Administer injections and childhood immunizations within scope of MA certification
- Obtain and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration) and document findings
- Assist physicians during exams and procedures to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care
- Prepare exam rooms, keep them clean and fully stocked with necessary supplies
- Triage and return patient phone calls as directed, delivering clear instructions and follow-up
- Maintain medical records, complete referral forms and lab slips, and support accurate documentation
- Requisition and manage supplies to maintain adequate stock levels
- Support patients with rooming, preparation for exams and procedures, and provide a calm, caring presence
Qualifications
- Current Medical Assistant certification required; must maintain certification while employed
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting
- Completion of at least 2 years in a formal Medical Assistant curriculum or equivalent specialized MA training
- Phlebotomy and injections experience required; experience with immunizations preferred
- LPN candidates are also accepted as an alternative qualification
- Ability to work calmly under stress, maintain patient confidentiality, and function well on a team
Education
- Completion of a formal Medical Assistant curriculum (minimum 2 years) — required
- Ongoing maintenance of Medical Assistant certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical skills: phlebotomy, injections, immunizations, vital signs
- Comfort assisting physicians with exams and minor procedures
- Familiarity with lab testing workflows and specimen handling
- Competence in maintaining accurate medical records and documentation
- Good phone triage and patient communication skills
- Supply management and inventory replenishment experience
- Professional appearance, discretion, and a patient-centered attitude
